My eclectic foundation in counseling work stems from a cognitive-behavioral approach (CBT) but also incorporates many aspects of solution-focused and feminist therapy. Positivity and humor are powerful tools that are integrated within my approach as well. Along with referring to counseling approaches, I also draw from the health & wellness perspective, motivating my clients to meet their mental and physical health goals.
I specialize in working with individuals and couples in the LGBTQIA+ community as well as those struggling with depression, anxiety, and trauma. Additionally, I am highly proficient at approaching issues related to stress management, time management, school/work/life balance, and self-confidence. I am a licensed clinical social worker in Florida and Virginia. I have a masters in social work from Louisiana State University, and a bachelor’s in sociology from California State University and have been working in the social work field since 2018. I work from a trauma-focused, strengths-based whole-body perspective. I specialize in working with those struggling with substance abuse, domestic violence, and depression.
In working with the Queer Keys Community Center, I am offering Skill-Building Counseling focused on specific topics such as Self Compassion, Distress Tolerance, and Communication. Each topic is structured into its own multi-step program that ranges between 4 to 6 consecutive weeks, and helps you build life-affirming skills that promote healthy relationships with both yourself and with others. You can see the program descriptions below and choose which topic you would like to focus on in our sessions.
Overcoming challenges can be difficult but with the right tools and support, I believe we can get you to be your full self. I work with all ages from 10 and up. I so look forward to meeting you and beginning this transformative time.
Self Compassion:
This structured, multi-step program empowers you to transform self-critical patterns into a more caring, supportive inner voice. It begins by helping you understand what self-compassion really is and why it’s so valuable for your emotional well-being. You then explore common internal barriers, like fear that being kind to yourself means weakness—and learn to overcome them. Next, you’ll practice slowing down and calming your mind, developing skills to notice when you’re self-critical, and gently guide yourself toward kindness. Through techniques like compassionate imagery, you’ll cultivate inner warmth and strength. The program then teaches ways to transform compassionate feelings into thoughts and behaviors, using tools like writing exercises and soothing self-care actions. Finally, everything comes together in a long-term self-compassion plan—a personalized, sustainable way to live with greater self-kindness and resilience. This program runs for 6 weeks.
Distress Tolerance:
This four-part program helps people build skills to cope with difficult emotions without avoiding or escaping them. It begins with understanding what distress intolerance is and how it develops, then teaches acceptance—learning to notice and allow emotions without judgment. From there, clients practice constructive ways to improve how they feel in the moment through healthy coping strategies and problem-solving. Finally, the modules guide clients in creating a personalized action plan to recognize triggers, manage reactions, and build long-term resilience. Together, these skills foster greater confidence in handling life’s challenges and emotions effectively. This program runs for 4 weeks.
Communication:
This short-term program is designed to help you build the skills needed for healthier relationships and greater self-confidence. You’ll learn how to: Communicate clearly and respectfully, without guilt or fear. Set healthy boundaries that protect your time, energy, and emotional well-being. Create realistic expectations of yourself and others to reduce disappointment and conflict. Each session is designed so that you can start making changes right away. You’ll leave with a personalized toolkit of communication strategies, boundary-setting scripts, and expectation-setting guides you can use in daily life. This is a supportive, one-on-one approach that empowers you to strengthen your relationships, honor your needs, and feel more in control. This program runs for 6 weeks.
